About the Role

Position Summary
The City of Towanda is currently accepting applications for a full time Maintenance Worker. The Maintenance Worker will work alongside other maintenance staff and under the supervision and aid of the City Superintendent. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, water and wastewater treatment, streets, sidewalks, parks, snow removal, maintenance of City equipment and buildings, and other general maintenance as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Operate some heavy equipment including trucks and tractors
• Performs general maintenance on equipment including: refueling; changing oil; lubricating parts; making minor adjustments, as necessary
• Performs daily safety check-out/in procedures on equipment
• Repairs and maintains equipment
• Tests and maintains daily chemical levels of city water supplies
• Performs daily duties at lift station
• Clean and maintain ditches, culverts, and other routes for water flow
• Performs landscaping duties including mowing, weed-eating, trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, edging lawns, raking, watering plants and trees, sweeping and clearing fallen trees
• Handles maintenance of existing and construction of new park equipment (benches, tables, signs, etc.)
• Operate a variety of landscaping equipment including mowers, edgers, and weed eaters
• Assists in snow removal
• Performs duties to prepare and maintain the city pool during season
• Prompt and regular attendance
• Wear personal protective equipment, as required
• Help other team members accomplish tasks
• Abide by all standards, conduct and policies, as stated in Employee Handbook
• Continuous improvement mindset and approach to completing all job tasks
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Valid KS Driver's License required

 

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

 

Physical

·         Has ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, reaching overhead, grasping, lifting, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and handling of objects

·         Has ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

·         Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction

·         Hears normal tones, with or without correction

 

Cognitive

·         Work under supervision; work cooperatively with other employees

·         Ability to listen, understand and communicate information

·         Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environments, performing a variety of frequently changing tasks
