Job Title:   Library Director

 

Supervised by:  Board President and Board Trustees

 

Job Description:

This is a part-time position, currently about 23 hours per week. Operating hours are normally Monday and Fridays from 10 am to 5:30 pm and Wednesday from 10- 6 pm on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. The Librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the library. This includes but is not limited to:

 

Library:

  • Assisting library customers with finding and choosing materials

  • Provide reference assistance and train customers in the use of the library resources and computers.

  • Co-coordinate children’s programs like Story Times and other activities.

  • Coordinate with volunteers and participate in fundraising activities (Friends of the Library)

  • Maintain regular attendance in the workplace and attend all Board meetings

  • Process requests for materials from other library sources

  • Submit ideas for improvement, changes and new programs

  • Submit library information on social media (Facebook Page and the Towanda Library Page)

  • Weed out library materials on a regular basis, and order new materials (books & DVDs)

  • Maintain circulation records. Check for and follow up on overdue items. Collect late fees

  • Perform any other duties or special projects that the library board recommends.

  • Prepare reports for the local, Regional and State Library Boards.

  • Co-Coordinate with the president on the agenda material for the next board meetings

  • Oversee library staff

  •  Shared general housekeeping and cleaning inside the facility (dusting, vacuuming or any other housecleaning activities).

  • Attend conferences, training courses and seminars as needed. Travel to SCKELS in South Hutchinson for available training courses.

  • Be able to find and write grants to improve the library and programs to offer for the community. 

  • Meet the ILL courier and book truck for SCKS rotating Collection

 

Business and Technology

  • Maintain public access to computers and other public library equipment

  • Maintain library webpage

  • Learn and maintain Apollo/Biblionix automated checkout system

  • Maintain library financial records through the use of QuickBooks

 

Qualifications

  • Previous library experience, equivalent work experience or Library Certification

  • Significant computer skills, including the use of the Internet, internet search engines and basic library reference sources

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks

  • Organization skills

  • Must be able to pick up at least 50 pounds

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Must be able to work within the policies and procedures set forth by the library board.

  • Self-Starter and self-motivated

  • Strong social skills

  • Must be team-oriented

 

Starting Wage

  • $12.50 – $15.00 on experience
